Last weekend, my friend Jason had a party where everyone had to wear an accessory from a favorite holiday. Of course, Alex and I chose Berlin. We wore all black, and, in an uncharacteristically crafty moment, I made us pins of the East Berlin traffic light men. I must say, I was pretty proud of them!
Hello, dear readers! Alex and I are back from Berlin. The city was amazing -- achingly hip, creative, friendly and forward-thinking. We biked everywhere; each street has a bike lane and the drivers are so respectful, nothing like New York cabbies. Did you know that Berlin is the greenest city in Europe? Over 30% of the city is covered in parks, lakes, trees or waterways. The museums were also fascinating--including the new DDR museum about what life was like behind the Berlin wall.
Today, at long last, Alex and I are off to Berlin! Thank you to everyone for the great tips on cool places to eat, things to do and sights to see. Can't wait to hit the streets and hang out with dudes like these....

I've always loved to travel, but I have a limited income. So I was thrilled this year to discovered the genius of housing swaps. In Paris, my mom and I swapped apartments for a pretty apartment in the fourteenth. For our Berlin trip, Alex and I are swapping with the lovely apartment pictured here. (Check it out!!!)
Hmmm, I think it's a nice morning for a fantasy vacation, don't you? Let's jump on a plane to Santorini, Greece, and stay at the Ikies resort, in the Fisherman's house. Apart from its breathtaking aesthetic and location, the hotel is known for amazing service; one review read, “The staff lives for nothing more than to refill your cocktail." After hiking, swimming and lounging all day, we'll go to dinner dressed in Chris Benz's resort 2007 collection. What do you say, readers? Wanna go?

Congrats to our baby bene! We just found out that we are finalists for a Folio: Ozzie & Eddie Magazine Award. We're up for Best Travel Issue, along with Budget Travel (which I love; their editor is awesome and good natured) and National Geographic. Little bene, you are growing up so nice and strong!
My mom and I just got back from a wonderful, enchanting, giggly week in Paris. Looking through the photos is hilarious since there are so many of us hanging out in restaurants and cafes...a disproportionate amount, really :)

Some of my family lives in America; but most live in England. My family in England just spent an amazing weekend together in Polruan, the tiny Cornish fishing village where my grandmother lives. My aunt sent the photos today, and they made my heart swell and break at the same time. Looks so lovely -- I wish we all could have been there! It's hard to live so far away from your family sometimes.
There's something about a vacation that makes you want to reinvent yourself. My mom and I are going to Paris soon, and I keep fantasizing about strolling the streets in French-style trench coats and turtleneck sweaters.
I'm heading to San Francisco for a few days to see Lucy and Brooke. I am out of my mind excited to see them! Have a lovely weekend!!!!

Everyone seemed to love the South African hotel from last week, so here's another one to add to the mix. Aside from top-notch cooking and comfortable accommodations, The Giraffe Manor is known for, you guessed it, a friendly herd of giraffe. Bizarre! (As one reader sweetly put it, "I so want to wake up to a giraffe batting her eyelashes at me. Adorable.")
Yesterday morning, I stumbled upon this incredible open-air hotel in South Africa. It's called the Outpost and it's smack in the middle of Kruger National Park. Well, don't mind if I do.....
I love Patrick Smith's atmospheric photography. This photograph was taken at Val Thorens, the highest ski resort in France, where my family was lucky enough to ski when we were growing up. Our ski-school teacher Dominique was sometimes mean and sometimes nice, and my sister won an Asterix comic in a race. My mom said that on especially cold days, you could hear the little ski-school children weeping as they skiied past. So sad!
